The bicycle industry is awash in cookie-cutter sub-1000 gram stock carbon frames. What used to be a rarity is now available in almost any bike shop. Don’t get us wrong, we like light bikes. Parlee was building 850-gram carbon framesets when most manufacturers were still clinging to titanium and aluminum as the “ultimate” road frame material. It is not difficult to build light, stiff carbon frames. However, the challenge is to build light, stiff frames that ride smoothly and can be counted on to last more than a season or two.
